2010 is a big year for Ladyfest. The US-inspired DIY organisation is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and although the main Ladyfest Ten party won’t be lighting the sparklers and slicing the cake ’til October/November, there will be a number of fundraisers and mini-fests in the meantime. Most pressingly is the upcoming week-long affair at Goldsmith University’s Student Union, now in its fourth year and getting better all the time. Running from February 22–26, events include art exhibitions, discussions, cabaret, talks from female-centric activists and artists, crafternoons, performance art and the essential Ladyfest ingredient: live music.
Tuesday 23 will feature a 5pm screening of the Patti Smith documentary ‘Dream Of Life’, followed by a discussion on women in music, while Thursday 25 sees a free afternoon of acoustic sounds running from 4–7pm, featuring Alex Holmes + band, Alice Trueman, Xsara and Slaveen. This is followed by the official Ladyfest Band Night, which kicks off at 9pm and features Wears The Trousers favourites Wetdog and Pens, alongside ‘Japanese punk trio’ Bracelettes and Veronica Falls.
A full itinerary for the week and all other info can be found here. Tickets for Ladyfest Band Night are £3 in advance or £4 on the door and are available through the Student Union Shop or online here. All other events are free but donations are appreciated and will go to women’s liberation charities.
