Gabriella Cilmi
Ten

[Island; March 22]

Two years on from shifting over two million copies of her debut album Lessons To Be Learned, eighteen year old Gabriella Cilmi has adopted a much racier image for her latest assault on the pop charts. New album Ten, aside from having a cover that just screams Photoshop fail, was inspired by the golden age of disco, especially by Donna Summer’s 1976 opus Four Seasons Of Love (“That album opened my mind,” she told The Independent in a recent interview), and sees the Italian–Australian singer emphatically shed her girl-next-door pop confections. Out on March 8, first single ‘On A Mission’ has been described by Gabriella as “‘I Will Survive’ for the 21st century” and borrows the bassline from Joe Jackson’s ‘Steppin’ Out’, which tells you all you need to know really. Producers on the album include Xenomania, Greg Kurstin of The Bird & The Bee, Dallas Austin and The Invisible Men.
