It’s no exaggeration to say that Joanna Newsom’s forthcoming third album Have One On Me is one of the most anticipated releases of 2010, all the more so for the impressive attempts to keep info about it under wraps. But, finally, we have official confirmation that the record, her first since 2006’s decade-besting Ys, will span not one, not two, but three discs (or LPs, whichever you like). Rumours of this surfaced a few weeks ago, when the February 22 release was first announced, and we couldn’t be happier.

’81’, the first of the new songs to emerge, is now available to stream here. It’s just Joanna and her harp, and it’s beautiful. Which is more than we can say for the artwork, here. Is that really it??

UPDATE: Here’s a snap of the artwork, seeing as the Drag City website is overloaded at present.

Really looking forward to this! (3 discs!…)
Hope that’s not the final artwork (Ys had a great cover) (nice font though, but it would be nice if there was a picture…) .
(Drag City website still down so I can’t hear the new song (yet) :( )

We’re playing chase-the-stream now as Drag City seem to have ordered the above stream to be taken down.

Stereogum still have it, for now: http://stereogum.com/archives/new_joanna_newsom__81_111241.html

Great to see my favorite harpist getting some respect!

Speaking of Newsom, Roan Press’s “Visions of Joanna Newsom” book is now available for pre-ordering: http://www.roanpress.com/ourbooks.html
