Sing Me To Sleep

[American Laundromat; May 18]

Here’s some news we’ve been anticipating for a while. American Laundromat Records have finally announced some early details of their exciting new charity compilation Sing Me To Sleep, “a whimsical collection of lullabies and non-lullabies” covered by a fantastic array of indie artists including Laura Gibson, Tanya Donelly, Jenny Owen Youngs, Stars, Ohbijou’s Casey Mecija, Dean & Britta and new Stephanie Dosen/Simon Raymonde project Snowbird. Early purchasers have the opportunity to grab one of the limited edition first pressings featuring bonus tracks, alternative artwork, a bonus 7″ blue vinyl with even more bonus tracks (with download code too), two badges, an 11″ x 17″ poster and the chance to win a personalised copy of the album bearing the signature of your favourite participant. Pre-orders for this covetable package opened today over at the label website. All profits from the album, available worldwide from May 18, will be donated to The Valerie Fund, a charity that provides children with cancer and blood disorders with support and comprehensive healthcare.

“This has been a really fun project to produce,” says label founder Joe Spadaro. “We’re so grateful to all the artists that donated their valuable time and remarkable talent to this album. The one thing I love about producing compilations is, with so many artists involved, the projects often take on a life and energy of their own. This was certainly the case with Sing Me To Sleep… it’s truly been a collaborative effort, and we cannot wait to share the tracks with everyone.”

“When so much creativity and generosity come together for a good cause, one can only describe it as magical,” adds co-producer and art director Kate Garchinsky. “Our goal with Sing Me To Sleep has been to fill a void in independent music that appeals to both the adult indie fan and their children, an exploding demographic, while supporting the Valerie Fund. Many of our artists have little ones of their own. Their enthusiasm for this new ‘Indie For Kids’ genre is evident in the playfulness of their recordings. I believe much good will spring from this project.”

While the final tracklists for the regular and bonus editions have yet to be confirmed, the following songs are certain to make the release:

Stars, ‘Asleep’ [Smiths cover]
