Woodpecker Wooliams
‘You Have Long’ [Mary Margaret O’Hara cover]

Contrary to popular belief, Mary Margaret O’Hara didn’t drop off the face of the Earth after her bewitching 1988 debut Miss America. It might have taken her 13 years to put out anything vaguely resembling a full-length album – 2001’s soundtrack to Canadian indie flick ‘Apartment Hunting’ – but she pops up occasionally to remind everyone just quite how spellbinding she is as a performer. Woodpecker Wooliams, aka Gemma Williams, possesses a quiet magic of her own. Her recent album Diving Down was a delicate gem with an affecting neo-medieval sensibility that set its creator apart from the usual folk crowd, so it was with great excitement that we received this MP3 and accompanying video filmed in snowy Brighton. Retitled ‘You Have Long’ from the Mary Margaret’s original ‘Dream I Had’ (from the ‘Apartment Hunting’ soundtrack), Gemma’s gorgeously simple version, transposed from the guitar to the Celtic harp, is a serene little beauty, perfect for a nostalgic evening of sorting through a box of old photos, or watching snowflakes tumble from the skies. MP3 after the jump.
