the miseducation of sharon jones coming in may

It hardly seems three years since Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings released their phenomenal third album, 100 Days, 100 Nights, but then there’s been nothing really quite like it since so listening never seems old. Until now, that is, as Sharon and her eight-strong band of merry men gear up to release their new raw soul opus I Learned The Hard Way on May 4, which just so happens to be Sharon’s birthday. Recorded on an Ampex eight-track recorder at the studios of Brooklyn-based independent label Daptone Records, the Bosco Mann-produced album promises to be their most vibrant retro feast to date.

If you’re not familiar with Sharon’s sound, you could do worse than to pick up the recently released Daptone Records compilation Daptone Gold, which also features the fantastic Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens and Cynthia Langston.
