With details of Tori Amos’s stage musical project ‘The Light Princess’ (based on the George MacDonald short story) still sketchy at best, Regina Spektor might just steal her limelight with the news that she is to score her own fairytale spinoff in new Broadway-aimed musical, ‘Beauty’, produced by Elephant Eye Theatrical, the same theatre group behind the new Addams Family stage production. The story branches out from playwright and director Tina Landau’s one-act play of the same name, staged in 2002, and “uses the 1812 Grimm fairy tale Sleeping Beauty as a jumping off point for a contemporary and hauntingly provocative story of beauty lost and beauty found.”

Regina will work alongside lyricist Michael Korie, who has helped develop both ‘Grey Gardens’ and ‘Finding Neverland’ for the stage, to write the songs. Still, Tori might just squeak in there first after all as ‘Beauty’ isn’t expected to hit Broadway until the 2011–12 season, all being well.
