‘The Great Disruptors’

Sweethead is the latest project of Queens Of The Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, featuring Norm Block (Mark Lanegan Band, Plexi) on drums and Eddie Nappi (Mark Lanegan Band, Handsome) on bass, with vocals by the beguiling Serrina Sims. Produced by Van Leeuwen, The Great Disruptors EP is due for release on October 26th – a date that fans of this type of music will probably want to scrawl in red lipstick on the back of a backstage pass for a My Bloody Valentine gig.

This project will no doubt attract attention for its link with QOTSA alone, though the presence of Serrina and her darkly enigmatic vocals ought to be enough to grab any passing fan of tuneful hard rock riff-driven noise; think Karen O’s slightly primmer cousin. The band’s name, taken from a Bowie B-side, is an almost self-deprecating nod to a sound one could call ‘homage’ or ‘derivation’, depending on one’s own ideas re: the existence of anything new under the hard-rock sun. You’ll find no self-deprecation on record however; simply a good solid swaggering rock song that leaves the headphones practically reeking of Marlboro lights and whisky. MP3 after the jump.
