‘Chica Chica Boom Chic’

This American singer was born into a musical family of Brazilian descent. Her father is João Gilberto, a guitarist known as the ‘Father of Bossa Nova’, and her mother, Miúcha, is an equally talented singer and composer. With this background, its hardly surprising that Bebel starting performing well before her teen years, and has continued into a long career marked with some very impressive achievements. Her solo debut Tanto Tempo was a massive word-of-mouth hit, and she later won a Mobo Award for 2004’s eponymous follow-up, which also scored a Grammy nomination, and can also count a duet with Mike Patton and a spot on the soundtrack for Brad Anderson’s film ‘Next Stop Wonderland’ as proof of her cross-culture appeal.

This preview track comes from Bebel’s fourth album, All In One, which hits shelves at the end of September and boasts some top notch collaborations including Didi Gutman of Brazilian Girls, Mark Ronson and John King of the Dust Brothers to name but a few. The name alone should indicate this track’s hip-swaying, rhythmical tendencies. Sung in Bebel’s silky Portuguese tongue, ‘Chica Chica Boom Chic’ is an exotically dreamy bossa nova number, set over with a modern twist here and there. If All In One follows suit, this is an album sure to be worth checking out. MP3 after the jump.
