Having finally established herself as a vocalist to be reckoned with after working with Mercury Music Prize-nominated duo Neon Neon (aka Boom Bip and Super Furry Animals’ Gruff Rhys) last year, Cardiff-born singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon is releasing her long-awaited debut album, Me Oh My, on October 12th. The 10-track album was co-produced by Cate and Kris Jenkins, and takes its influences from fellow Welsh-speaking artists Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci and Super Furry Animals, as well as acid-folk treasures like Linda Perhacs’s stunning Parallelograms. Gruff Rhys and radio DJ Huw Evans, champions of all things out of Cymru, have pitched in to help too. Evans has done the artwork, while Rhys has set up a new label, Irony Bored, to get the album out there. Rough Trade Shops are offering a special edition of the album with a bonus DVD of videos, including a “Thriller-style short film” created for the song ‘Hollow Trees House Hounds’ by artist Casey Raymond. Pre-order it here.
