‘Candy Girl’ [demo]

London trio Trailer Trash Tracys have been blipping on our radar for some time now. Glowing with that ‘hyped in the underground and ready for some mainstream limelight’ way, the band are fresh from some major tour travels with fellow too-cool-for-school lo-fi act The xx, and sound just a little like the UK’s answer to the Vivian Girls, with girl-group pop meeting darker, nostalgia-driven shoegazey punk. This track is a demo version of their double A-side debut single ‘Candy Girl’ / ’You Wish You Were Red’, due September 14th through hipster label No Pain In Pop. Sharp crashing drums are set against hypnotic, snaking guitar licks and thick, slicing bass, with reverb-dusted chanting from frontwoman Susanne Aztoria echoing throughout. Though it usually takes a little more than one song to win us over, ‘Candy Girl’ satisfies in every way. Fussy technical ability is avoided in favour of intuitive arrangements, the atmosphere created seemingly piped out of the ether and poured directly into the mixing desk. Pure magic. MP3 after the jump.
