‘In These Arms’

United under their Swell Season moniker, ‘Once’ stars Markéta Irglová and The Frames’ Glen Hansard return on October 26th with third album, Strict Joy, which takes its name from a 1931 book of poems by Irish poet James Stephens. Still high on their Oscar-winning soundtrack song, ‘Falling Slowly’, the duo are keen to document their experience with the ramifications of success in what they consider to be very grounded lifestyles. That the pair are no longer a couple gives Strict Joy an additional edge, in theory, though it’s unlikely to reach Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac-style drama.

‘In These Arms’ takes its cues from the dual conundrums that revolve around romantic attachments – trust and faith: “Sometimes you’re just meant to commit to someone’s life, and you’re meant to go through all these experiences,” Hansard remarks. “But it’s all good because it’s all part of something that’s already been written.” ‘In These Arms’ sees simple acoustic guitar deepened with a solemn bass and joined at the chorus by a heartfelt, rippling symphony of piano, strings and assorted dreamy sounds. Glen leads the vocals this time, with Markéta chiming in sweetly during the chorus. Intimate and honest. MP3 after the jump.
