Following their low-key return at London’s Water Rats Theatre earlier this year [review], Skunk Anansie have finally revealed some more details about their long-anticipated greatest hits collection. Smashes & Trashes, out November 2nd through One Little Indian, will compile 12 tracks from the band’s five million-selling, three-album back catalogue, plus three new songs: ‘Because Of You’, ‘Tear The Place Up’ and ‘Squander’. “No one’s really sounded like us since we’ve been away,” says iconic frontwoman Skin, who has released two solo albums during the band’s 8-year absence. “I think that people are ready for a bit of in-yer-face tuneful rock music again. I see us in competition with every band that’s out there and I think we’re better than we were before. If we didn’t feel like that, it would be sad and pathetic.”

‘Because Of You’ will be the album’s first single. Released on September 14th, it sounds as if the band were never away. Watch a video for ‘Tear The Place Up’ here.

As previously reported, Skunk Anansie will play some UK dates in November as part of a 21-date European tour. Tickets are on sale now for the following venues:

21.11.09 O2 Academy, Leeds
22.11.09 O2 Academy, Glasgow
24.11.09 O2 Academy, Manchester
25.11.09 Civic Hall, Wolverhampton
26.11.09 Brixton Academy, London
