310709_natalieimbrugliaStar enlists the help of Coldplay, Brian Eno on new album

After bouncing back with the actually pretty great Counting Down The Days in 2005, Natalie Imbruglia once again tiptoed off into pop seclusion only to emerge with the horrible single ‘Glorious’ and its parent album, Glorious: The Singles Collection, as a kiss-off from her record label who opted not to release the album she had been working on. Having decided to set up her own label Malabar Records (with distribution through Island Records), Natalie is finally releasing the album she’s been working on since late 2005, and she’s had some pretty impressive help with it too. Come To Life, released on October 5th, includes three songs co-written with Coldplay, including first single ‘Want’ (out September 28th), ‘Fun’, and the Brian Eno-produced ‘Lukas’.

Discussing the album in April 2009, Natalie told the Sydney Morning Herald, “I feel the same creative buzz I felt when I first started my career…It’s just fun and artistic and creative and all the things it should be.” She also described the album as “slightly less introspective” with “more electronic stuff in there” and “more dance beats”. Other songs were produced by Blur and Elbow collaborator Ben Hillier. Natalie’s ex-husband Daniel Johns also has a writing credit on ‘Want’. Album closer ‘Wild About It’ is said to be earmarked for a digital promotion campaign prior to the release of ‘Want’, so expect to hear that soon.
