190509_lisamitchellFirst single out in July

UK-born Lisa Mitchell may have made it to the final six contestants in Australian Idol three years ago but she was never really cut out for a career in manufactured pop, a fact she realised from early on when she spurned lucrative offers from labels and set out to make it on her own terms. Her debut EP, Said One To The Other, topped the iTunes charts in Australia and was followed by last year’s stunning follow-up, Welcome To The Afternoon. That second EP spawned a hit in the shape of the reassuring whimsical singalong ‘Neopolitan Dreams’ after the song was featured on a washing powder ad, selling 15,000 copies in the UK alone since last October.

Having very recently completed the recording of her debut album with Dann Hume of New Zealand rockers Evermore and producer Anthony Whiting, the 19 year old singer-songwriter is ready to take on the charts properly with the backing of RCA Records. Australians have already been treated to the release of the sweetly offbeat love song ‘Coin Laundry’, but the first UK single will be a freshly reworked version of ‘Neopolitan Dreams’, out July 6th. A second single, ‘Oh Hark’, is planned for October 12th, with the album scheduled for the following week. Co-writers include fellow artists Ed Harcourt, Lamb’s Andy Barlow, Sacha Skarbek (Adele, Jason Mraz) and Craige Dodds (Amy Winehouse, Sugababes). As well as appearing at Glastonbury Festival in late June, Lisa has a few dates lined up in London over the next few weeks. Catch her at the following venues:

26.05.09 Hoxton Bar & Grill, London
04.06.09 The Fly, London
09.06.09 Water Rats, London

The album is set for UK release, July 29th. Not October.
