Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan will release her second solo album, No Baggage, on August 24th through Cooking Vinyl. A single, ‘The Journey’, will be out in June. As with her solo debut Are You Listening?, Dolores co-produced the album with Ontario-based producer Dan Brodbeck. Describing the album as “at times very confessional and dealing with my true emotions”, Dolores says the album contains what is probably her most heart-on-sleeve songwriting since The Cranberries’ classic 1994 album No Need To Argue. “Everyone, through their experiences or their background, has had terrible moments where they think they can’t handle it. With this record I’m trying to show that, no matter how bad things may seem, it’s not really that bad in the big picture,” she added.

No Baggage contains ten new songs and a re-recording of Are You Listening?‘s ‘Apple Of My Eye’. There’s no hint as to how this new version differs, but the press release sheds some light on some of the other new songs. ‘Fly Through’ is described as “quasi-Beatlesque” (!); ‘It’s You’ as “insinuatingly catchy”; and ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ as having “Indian-styled instrumentation and structure”. “It has a kind of mysterious sound to it, unpredictable; it doesn’t sound anything like normal,” says Dolores.
